Hell On A Hill Top--for four months in 1970, Hell raged on the hill tops of Ripcord, 805,902 and 1000, all just east of the A Shau Valley. Instead of backing away from the fight, the North Vietnamese mortar, recoilless rifle, heavy machine gun, sapper and regular infantry attacks increased. The last offensive around Ripcord was starting to look like the last stand. Unwilling to keep american soldiers at high risk at this stage of war, Ripcord was evacuated on 23 July. The battle went unnoticed for 30 years until Keith Nolan's book, RIPCORD, was published. As powerful and gripping as was the story of the great leadership and courageous fighting by our soldiers, the magnitude of the enemy force still remained unknown. The author, the 3rd Brigade commander during the siege and evacuation, made trips to Vietnam in 2001 and 2004 and interviewed the 324B Division Commander whose first-ever division sole mission, was to destroy Firebase Ripcord. The full story is now told.

Good reading. But, the perspective of a Brigade Commander is very different from that of a rifleman living on the ground. No one knows that better than the commanders, who very often came up through the ranks themselves in war time. So,when you read this, remember you are getting the perspective of a senior military leader. The author talks of his personal views and experiences often enough, but being on the top and looking down isn't the same as being on the bottom and looking up.Product details

Hell On A Hill Top eBook Ben Harrison Don Moore Merle Pribbinow Phan Van Dinh Reviews
Excellent book, well researched. It was very interesting to here the North Vietnamese propaganda side and all the divisions that the Screaming Eagles faced around Ripcord.
Not near as good a book as it was hyped to be. Keith Nolan's book on Ripcord was much more detailed and a better read. I thought I would gain more insight from Harrison's, but not so.
Not the best read concerning our time in the Nam. While it was interesting, I struggle with a novel about a made up division.
